Nike has begun a new campaign that is targeting their line in Football (Soccer) apparel and gear. Along with Youtube, they have created an interactive video in-which viewers choose predetermined spots within the video to watch a short segment/commercial on a particular piece of clothing or equipment. The video pays off near the end, when viewers are given the controls of a classic Sega Genesis game, Sonic the Hedgehog. The emulator plays exactly like the original but with Nike Banner Ads and soccer balls thrown in sporadically. Sonic, unlike any other classic video game character, is best associated with running and what better way to promote Nike than having Sonic run for a challenging mini game!
Not only does this campaign bring in a new way of interactive and changeable Youtube videos, but it has a certain nostalgic aspect to it. Not only are viewers seeing the main ad, but as they click on certain items, they are given another advertisement within, which they make an active decision to watch it or not. Very creative and inventive on both Nike’s and Youtube’s part, and I can’t seem to stop playing the Sonic the Hedgehog Challenge.
As advanced as our system is, sadly the video cannot be embedded. Youtube got alittle to fancy on us! So here it is
