Sorry, My Glass is Half Full.

smithgifford-glassI know its very trendy today to talk about the world coming to an end. It’s headline worthy, and no one really wants to talk about anything positive. I also know that images of car dealers shutting down and homes in foreclosure will grab the viewer. Kinda like an economic car wreck on the side of the road. And we all are rubber necking along the way. Not me. I refuse to get caught up in the negativity. It helps nothing, and only spreads more negativity. I am a glass is half full person, always have been, and I suppose I will always be. I see this economic down turn in a different light than most. Let’s say that we hit 30% un-employment. Lets just say. That leaves 70% still working. And the other 30% possibly learning new things. Possibly starting new companies, new trends, new…. life! That is the American way. I see the same for companies. Let’s say that you are a car dealer for example, and all the dealers around you are not selling cars, just like you. Now is the time to market, to steal market share. The time to look at the glass half full. To be creative and out there, create fun sales events. Rethink your brand position in the market place. Whatever. But for gods sake do something. This is the time that brands are built. Think… If your competitors are not marketing, and you are? Who gets the sale……Add in the fact that media is now 3 times cheaper than it was a year ago, you are foolish to not be out there. So come out of your hole, see the sun shining, grab a half full glass of water and build your self an empire!… Come on in, the waters great!

  • Absolutely! Now is the best time to be taking the biggest risks because so many folks now (rather unfortunately) have nothing to lose.

  • I agree, but most clients are scared right now. Its tough if you dont have a huge budget. but then again this is the time that small companies can steal from big ones… We are!

  • I’m with you Matt. This is the time to tell your story. This is the time to be noticed. This is the time to be different. Be the bright flower in a gray landscape.
