Using The Word Bailout In Your Marketing Will Backfire.

I have now heard several low level retailers think they are so clever making bailout sales. For gods sake! What in the hell are they thinking? While you’re at it why not do a 9/11 sale. Come on down! we’re tearing down the building… It’s one thing to understand the emotion of the consumer, it’s another to slap them in the face with it. The term Bailout is a a lightning rod word. According to a recent poll done on CNN. The country is divided right down the middle on this issue. Why would you want to alienate half your market with some dumb ad? Frankly you would be better off not doing an ad at all and “Bailout” your marketing budget! So, you say, “I need to market, I need to sell, and folks are not buying anything. I know how they feel, why not tap into it”. I agree 100%, but this is were great creative, meets an obvious strategy. Your targeted consumer needs to feel that you understand them, not make fun of the situation they are in. The folks at keepcalmandcarryon.com get it. And it’s overt yet clever, and shows how one can market these days and succeed. There are a ton of other ways to use this current situation to market yourself. Offer help, advice, be positive and choose your humor wisely.
