Mashable… published a superb Infographic created by PostRocket. It’s the best summary of how the Facebook Edge Rank algorithm works that I’ve seen so far. Three key highlights for you:
96% of fans do NOT go back to a brand’s Facebook page after they “like” it
On average, only 16% of your fans will see your posts, and
In the United States, people spend more time on the Facebook news feed than on the Huffington Post, New York Times, CNN,

Clients often ask me when this social media fad will blow over. I tell them, it won’t. It will evolve and somewhere in the world the next Mark Zuckerberg… is creating the next Facebook, or Google, or eBay.
I was blown away by the infographic above. Every 60 seconds on the Internet,
695,000 Facebook status updates are made
98,000 Tweets are tweeted
3,600 Photos are uploaded to Instagram
100 New LinkedIn accounts are opened
60 New Blogs are created
320

I have a rep around the agency that I’m in the tank for Facebook, and I have to admit that I have been. I’ve staunchly defended the Facebook EdgeRank algorithm as a useful tool for improving the social experience on the platform. I’m always the person suggesting to clients that if they want to really increase the likes on their page, they need to seriously consider using Facebook ads to do so. I jumped for joy when you rolled out

What’s trending online right now is a campaign for Shell that allows users to create there very own Shell print ad. Users can vote on their favorite, ‘like’ it for Facebook and tweet about it. What could go wrong? An example can be seen above.
There are hundreds of these things. “Birds make great sponges,” “Paint it Black” and everything else under the sun you can think of concerning the arctic and oil have been created and shared over thousands

About a week before Facebook went public, General Motors, in a well-publicized (and possibly overblown) move announced they would stop advertising on Facebook. According to reports, GM pulled its $10M ad budget from Facebook because “they did not work.” GM, like many big advertisers was using Facebook’s Premium ad platform, and like many other big advertisers decided that these ads did not perform.
So, that’s it, right? Hold on. Not so fast. First, we’ve learned that GM and Facebook are …

Unless you’re always checking your personal ‘About Me’ on Facebook you probably haven’t noticed that your previous email address has been removed from your timeline. Facebook has made the push towards their own email domains whether you like it or not. By removing every user’s pre-existing email and replacing them with @facebook.com, it appears to be bit of a slippery move on their part. Not only did Facebook have to increase its online storage but it completely undermines people who

Recently, Facebook has increased its empire and teamed up with the popular blogging platform, WordPress. With around 16% of the world’s blogs being hosted, WordPress has adopted a feature that lets users tag and publish posts on friends and follow’s walls. This is big for both companies as its acts as a self promotional partnership. One of the more interesting features is that of adding a ‘WordPress Activity Feed’ for

Facebook recently has made some pretty notable changes. Besides going public and their stock suffering from it. They have introduced many new features for brands and businesses as well. ‘Free Ad Templates’ and making certain ads (video) available to all advertisers, just to name a few. A more noted feature on our previous post about ‘Promoted Posts…‘ for brands with 500 or more followers, remains one of the more dramatic additions to increasing a brand’s reach and appearance

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for Facebook. Here’s a quick recap:
Facebook goes public
Public offering suffers from bad karma
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg marries his college sweetheart
Mark Zuckerberg falls off list of 40 richest people in the world
Facebook launches promoted posts…
I really just want to talk about the last bullet item on the list. The average Joe probably doesn’t realize that only about 15% of their posts are actually seen by their friends (Gizmodo

Our friends at Mashable today reported the results of some VERY preliminary research on the new Facebook timeline and its’ impact on brand pages. The upshot? The timeline gives brands a 46% lift in engagement. It’s early folks, and the survey sample cited in the research was very small so let’s not get carried away. But, the research indicated that engagement with videos and photos has actually increased by 65%. In the new timeline, images are much larger, so researchers
